Noon meal scheme inaugurated

Thiruvananthapuram: Education Minister M.A. Baby inaugurated the noon meal scheme in city schools here on Tuesday. More than 30,000 students from 139 government and aided schools in the city will receive free noon meal at their schools under the scheme.

As per the Rs.1-crore scheme, the Corporation will fund for noon meal at the rate of Rs.2 per student a day in these 139 schools. Corporation health standing committee chairman G.R. Anil said the schools would be paid the money for the noon meals two months in advance. All the government and aided schools in the coastal areas of the city have been included in the scheme.

Mayor C. Jayan Babu presided over the function.
