Help centres for making corrections in voter cards

Staff Reporter

Corrected cards will be issued to needy voters in 7 or 15 days

Chennai: Voters requiring corrections in their elector photo identity cards may approach the help centres or Corporation zonal offices in all 16 constituencies in the district.

Fresh cards would be issued after the corrections are made. The procedures to apply for the corrections are as follows:

For correction of personal details such as name, age, sex, photograph and name of father/husband, fill up form 001 C and a form certifying that the fresh details supplied are correct. The corrected cards would be issued in 7 or 15 days. The same procedure is to be followed for those who are yet to receive their identity cards despite their names featuring in the electoral rolls drawn up till June 2008 and those who have lost their cards during any natural disasters or riots.

The above procedure may also be followed along with payment of Rs.25 for the following cases: Voters who have lost or damaged their cards and require duplicate ones; those whose cards bear their old addresses though the electoral rolls have the new addresses and those who want cards that fit into wallets.

These services apply to only those whose names and personal details have already been updated in the electoral rolls. Those who wish to have the details revised in the electoral rolls would have to submit forms 8, 8 –A or 6.

Draft rolls

The District Election Commission would conduct revision of draft rolls for 2009 from this week till December 2. Those who wish to include their names in the rolls and those who would turn 18 before January 1, 2009, may apply.

The draft rolls have been displayed in Corporation zonal offices and post offices. Those who want their names entered or personal details corrected would have to fill the following forms: Form 8A for address change within a constituency; Form 6 for address change to a different constituency and to register voters who turn 18 before or on December 31, 2008; Form 8 for correction of personal details and photograph; Form 7 for deletion from the electoral rolls.

Forms 6, 8 or 8A should be given with the filled-in form 001A and an attached passport-size photograph. Forms 6 and 8A must compulsorily contain the previous address of residence. Two proofs of the address of current residence must be attached. If a form is not completely filled or signed, the petition for revision of rolls is likely to be denied. The forms can be submitted by the applicant or a family member. A voter can be registered only in one constituency.
