KOCHI: The Navy Week State-level invitation football tournament will be held at the Parade Ground, Fort Kochi, from November 22 to 30.

Eight teams — Central Excise, Cochin Port Trust, Golden Threads, St. Albert’s College, India Gateway Terminal (all Ernakulam), Malabar United, Universal Club (both Kozhikode) and Thrissur XI will figure in the knockout tournament which will be held as part of the Navy Week celebrations.

Defending champion State Bank of Travancore, Thiruvananthapuram, will miss the Navy tournament as it will be busy with the preliminary rounds of the Federation Cup in Bangalore around the same time.

“We will have the matches under lights this time to attract the local crowd,” said Captain Sajiv Issar, the Commanding Officer, INS Dronacharya, during a media meet on Tuesday.

The prize-money has also been increased, with the winner taking the top purse of Rs 25,000. — Principal Correspondent
