Letters to the Editor
It is disturbing to see the BJP and the rest of the sangh parivar adopting an approach that is completely different from their stated position on terror to the arrest of Pragnya Singh Thakur, Lt. Col. Shrikant Purohit and other Malegaon blasts accused. The BJP should let the law take its course. The UPA government’s policy of minority appeasement should not be countered by supporting Hindutva organisations that encourage terror. Two wrongs do not make a right. Inamdar Ramachandra, Bangalore Statements such as the one made by BJP president Rajnath Singh — that the party will back the Malegaon blast accused — are condemnable. Does the party not trust the law of the land?M.A. Mohamed Sahul Hameed, Vellore That a leader of a prominent national party has double standards on terror is unfortunate. The BJP has hitherto accused the UPA government of being soft on terror. Why is it getting restless now?Naval Jacob, Thiruvananthapuram This refers to the allegation by Pragnya Singh that she was tortured in ATS custody. Isn’t that the whole point of having stringent anti-terror laws like POTA? Now that the boot is on the other foot, will the fundamentalists still continue to support POTA? Let them realise that this is what the secularists have all along been saying — repressive laws are against the tenets of democracy.S. Srinivas, Visakhapatnam
