VTU, Microsoft tie-up to develop curriculum

Belgaum: The Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) and Microsoft Corporation, U.S., will partner in curriculum development programmes, students’ projects, continuing education, research and development.

A decision was taken at a meeting VTU Vice-Chancellor H.P. Khincha had with Bill Gates, chairman, Microsoft Corporation, in New Delhi on November 5, according to a release issued by VTU Registrar K.V.A. Balaji here on Tuesday.

The proposed partnership follows Microsoft Dream Spark programme launched recently.

This will give students free support to help them become tomorrow’s entrepreneurs, innovators and leaders.

Microsoft will offer many products such as Visual Studio 2008, Professional Edition, Visual C++ 2008 Express Edition, Visual Basic 2008 Express Edition, Visual Web Developer 2008 Express Edition and also platform resources such as SQL Server 2008 Developer Edition, SQL Server Express Windows Server and Standard Edition (both 2003 and 2008) for every technically-inclined student.

Institutions affiliated to VTU will be trained to certify faculty and students in Microsoft technologies and connect them to the job market. The programme engages students and instructors from the start of their IT experience, and creates an opportunity for life-long learning for personal growth and professional development throughout their careers.

Microsoft IT Academies benefit from world-class Microsoft curriculum, Microsoft software and resources, and discounted Microsoft certification examination. Programmes to train in certification in Microsoft technologies are also being considered for faculty and students of VTU, said Prof. Balaji.
