State to take action against buses without permits
Staff Reporter
BANGALORE: The Government on Tuesday informed the High Court that it would take action against owners of the buses found operating without permits.
Advocate-General Uday Holla made this submission when the court was hearing a petition relating to the death of five schoolchildren here in 2001 when a bus in which they were travelling met with an accident. The bus was later found to have no permit to operate. When claims for compensation were made, the owner of the bus said she had no money to pay it. Taking a serious view of the case, Justice Rammohan Reddy had asked the Principal Home and Transport Secretary Upendra Tripathi and Transport Commissioner Bhaskar Rao to be present in court. The A-G promised that the State would take prompt action against buses operating without permits.
