KRISHNAGIRI: “Help us grow in our lives,” was the appeal of the three siblings of a widow who came to the Collectorate here on Monday. Though the appeal sounded a routine one, what made it stand out was their height - 3 feet. Jayanthi (23), her brothers Suresh (21) and Karthi (15) of Kava Medu on Kuppam Road, came with their mother Kasturi and another sister Nadhia (18), with a normal height, to seek the Government’s help for a living.

Jayanthi, in her petition to Collector V.K. Shanmugam, sought a loan of Rs. 30,000 to start a petty shop in their area.

Suresh, the breadwinner of the family, who was working in a lorry mechanic shed for a salary of Rs. 300 a month quit the job as his plea for a hike in salary was not accepted by his employer. He wanted a Government job under the physically challenged quota.

Karthi, a Standard VIII student of a municipal school, wanted scholarship to continue his studies.

Kasturi said that if the Government extended a helping hand, her family could lead a peaceful life.

Though many just watched them moving around in the Collectorate, some helped them write petitions and fill in the application forms. A constable took them straight to the grievances room where they submitted the petitions.
