CHENNAI: The Rs.80-crore terminal building expansion work at Tiruchi will be completed by next month.

According to Airports Authority of India (AAI) sources, the work commenced about 30 months ago. At present the terminal building can handle 100 passengers on the arrival side and an equal number on the departure side. The expanded terminal can handle 200 passengers each in both sections. The integrated building has ground and first floor totally admeasuring nearly 12,000 square metres, says an officer. While the first floor will be for arrival, the ground floor will be for departure.

With high ceiling and no pillars, glass and steel have been used extensively, which can easily removed during future expansion. The airport will have two aero bridges two conveyor belts, three escalators and five lifts.
