Regulation went haywire: Moily
Special Correspondent
BANGALORE: Chairman of the Administrative Reforms Commission M. Veerappa Moily on Tuesday criticised the State Government for not functioning for five hours on Monday and failed to regulate the vehicular traffic on many important roads when the Janata Dal (Secular) held its rally at the Palace Grounds bringing the lives of the people to a grinding halt.
In a letter to Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa, the senior Congress leader said that any political party had a right to hold a conference, but not at the cost of the citizens, who had to suffer the most. It appears that the Government stopped functioning for five hours and the regulation was totally defunct and went haywire.
He said that the Congress held its rally at Doddaballapur and the conference addressed by Rahul Gandhi, MP, was held at Byatarayanapura, on the outskirts. The ambulances could not move affecting the transportation of patients to hospitals. The schoolchildren and women, who were stranded, had to trek long distances to reach home.
Mr. Moily said that some children fainted after walking for long distances as there was hardly any transport facility. Air, bus and train passengers suffered as they missed their deadline. He demanded an apology from the Government and the Janata Dal (Secular) for the inconvenience to the public and the agony caused to them.
The former Chief Minister hoped that Mr. Yeddyurappa would appreciate the sentiments of the people and address the matter at the earliest.
