PALAKKAD: Electricity Minister A.K. Balan has said that there is segmentation of fishing communities within each religious group in Kerala. Releasing the book ‘Ecology, Technology and Economy: Continuity and Change among the Fisher folk of Kerala’ by P.R.G. Mathur here on Tuesday, the Minister said: “Interestingly, the book found that the acceptance of technological innovations seems to be greater among the Christians and least among the Hindus among them. This is an interesting observation which needs further probing. A study like this is very important in Kerala today. This is because the State has set up a model of economic development based on high social inputs and egalitarian distribution of benefits. To some extent, this has benefited fishing communities too.’ R.K. Mishra, President, Anthropological Association, Mysore, presided. Murkot Ramunny, administrator and writer, delivered the L.K. Ananthakrishna Iyer Memorial Lecture.
