Congress workers stage ‘rasta roko’

Correspondent

‘Government neglecting people’s cause’

Karwar: Members of the Haliyal Block Congress took out a protest march and staged a “rasta roko” demanding fulfilment of their demands on Monday.

They were protesting against the “failure” of the BJP Government to supply free power to farmers. They were demanding proper distribution of BPL cards and that the Government declare Haliyal taluk draught hit.

The protesters raised slogans against the Government and the local Janata Dal (Secular) MLA. They blocked Karwar-Belgaum road at Shivaji Circle for one hour. Addressing the protesters, block Congress president Shrikant Ghotnekar criticised the Government and the local MLA for “neglecting” the people’s cause. Those who took oath in the name of farmers were now exploiting them, he said and added that the BJP Government would fall soon. Ministers were announcing projects worth crores of rupees but none of them had become a reality, he added.

The Congress workers submitted a memorandum to the tahsildar.
