Attempts to annex forest land alleged

Staff Reporter

PALAKKAD: Some real estate developers are trying to encroach on the 138-acre forest land at Anthimahakan Kadu in the Shoranur-Kulappully area, according to the Bharthapuzha Samrakshana Samithi and Jana Jagratha.

In a joint statement here on Tuesday, the office-bearers of the organisations said the forest area was of great importance as the area was a catchment of the Bharathapuzha.

There were attempts to clear some of this forest to construct resorts, they said.

The area belonged to an erstwhile landlord of the name Kavalappara Moopil Nair. But it was later taken over by the Forest Department, they added.
