Coir festival in December

Event to be held as part of Grand Kerala Shopping Festival

ALAPPUZHA: The district administration has decided to introduce a ‘Coir Fest’ programme as part of the Grand Kerala Shopping Festival, which will be held across the State in December.

A meeting chaired by Additional District Magistrate Koshy John here on Tuesday decided to conduct the festival, which will be titled Coir Fest-2008, from December 1 to 15.

Aimed at encouraging the coir-product manufacturing and marketing sectors, the festival will also offer coir cooperative societies a five to 10 per cent registration fee grant for the event.

Lucky draws will be conducted whereby customers purchasing coir products will be given gold coins.

P.P. Chitharanjan, Municipal Chairman, District Industrial Centre general manager P.T. Rosamma and other officials attended the meeting held in this regard.
