Petition for independent probe

Legal Correspondent

NEW DELHI: The president of the New Delhi unit of the Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind (JUH), Maulana Arshad Madani, on Monday moved the Supreme Court for a probe by an independent agency into all acts of ‘Hindu terror’ from 2001.

It is expected to be mentioned this week for early hearing.

The writ petition expressed concern over the involvement of Hindu fundamentalists in the recent bomb blast at Malegaon in Maharashtra.

It criticised the investigating agencies for their closed mindset and as such scores of Muslim youth were put behind bars for no fault of theirs.

The petition said the truth would have come out much earlier had the report given by the Malegaon district unit of the JUH, about the involvement of Hindu fundamentalists groups in the blast soon after the incident, been considered.
