Warder attacked by Chanchalguda jail prisoner

Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD: An African national, Shabu, who is serving a two-year jail term in Chanchalguda jail, allegedly attacked a warder, Shivaji, while the latter was inspecting the cell on Monday.

According to jail superintendent M. Chandrashekhar, the incident occurred when the warder was knocking on the steel rods of the doors and windows with a stick to ensure if they were intact around 3.30 p.m.

Unruly character

“The prisoner is an unruly character and used to grumble at our staff for even the slightest of sounds. He suddenly started shouting at the warder,” the superintendent said.

Confused over the prisoner’s behaviour, Shivaji went close to him and tried to find out what irritated him.

Then the prisoner allegedly spit on the warder and attacked him when the latter brought him out of the cell to produce before the jailor.
