‘Nandi awards a Congress show’

Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: Telugu Desam party on Monday said the Congress government has grossly misused official machinery and turned the Nandi film award function here on Sunday into a politically motivated Congress show.

Addressing a press conference, party spokesperson, N. Rajakumari said never in the past, an official function was politicised to such an extent that only those who had pledged support to Congress were chosen for the awards. Other equally famous actors were totally ignored.

She said a platform meant for promoting and encouraging good Telugu cinema was used to praise the Chief Minister, Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy sky high.

She alleged that the film stars were luredby offering them several concessions again at the government’s expense.

At another press conference, TD Legislature Party deputy leader Nagam Janardhan Reddy, Ravula Chandrasekhara Reddy and Nagi Reddy criticised the government for not showing any interest or progress in investigating the politically motivated murder of Moddu Seenu, though ten days have passed.

There were several gaps in the police version of how the murder took place, they said and demanded narco-analysis and polygraph tests of Anantapur police superintendent, Jail superintendent and the son of a top politician ‘as they played a key role’. The police had been putting out only Omprakash’s version but not of four others lodged in the same barrack, they said.
