Ornaments stolen from house

Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: About 87 sovereigns of gold ornaments were reportedly stolen from a house in suburban Avadi on Monday.

Police said Sheikh Moosa Ansari (36) of Jeevanandham Third Street, working as a cashier in a nationalised bank, had gone to a relative’s place in Ranipet a couple of days ago. On Sunday, a neighbour alerted him that his house was found open. Ansari rushed back and found his house burgled.

The gold ornaments kept in the almirah were stolen. Assistant Commissioner of Police (Avadi) C. Vijay Kumar visited the scene of crime. Fingerprint experts and sniffer dogs were pressed into service. A special team has been formed to investigate the case.

The Avadi police have registered a case.
