Manipal: President of Dental Council of India (DCI) Anil Kohli said on Sunday that in order to provide employment to graduates of dental colleges, the Union Health Ministry had been urged to appoint a dentist each in every primary health centre (PHC). He was speaking at the 22nd annual convocation and awards ceremony of the Indian Section of Pierre Fauchard Academy here. Stating that there was a positive response from the Ministry for the demand, he said that the Ministry had been sought to fix a minimum salary of Rs. 15,000 a month to dentists. Dr. Kohli said that the DCI had made it compulsory for the teachers of dental colleges to do research. For a lecturer to become a reader, he should have published at least one research paper and for a reader to become professor, he should have published two research papers. A person should have published at least three research papers to be the principal of a dental college, he said.
