Medical allowance for pensioners

As per the recommendations of the Fifth Central Pay Commission all those pensioners, who opted for the non-contributory health scheme are eligible for a fixed medical allowance of Rs.100 per month with effect from December 1, 1997. The aforesaid allowance was increased to Rs.250 per month from August 1, 2005 exclusively to all the pensioners of the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation. This is in modification of the letter of December 19, 1997. These pensioners are governed by the same set of rules and regulations as applicable to all other Central pensioners. This is a big anomaly requiring the attention of the Ministry concerned.

Expedite BG conversion work

A large number of office-goers, students, devotees are badly hit due to the failure of the railways to complete the Tiruvarur–Nagapattinam BG conversion works. I do not know why the railways is delaying the track laying work only for a distance of about 30 km. The immediate opening of the BG track will immensely benefit all sections of the society.

II

On some pretext the Railway department is postponing the opening of the BG line between Kumbakonam and Chennai, much to the dismay and dissatisfaction of the people of delta districts. It is reliably learn that most work has been completed and the reason for delaying the opening up for traffic is not understood by the people. I hope that at least by January the BG line will be open for traffic.

Potholes on road

Due to the widening of the Tiruchi–Thanjavur National Highway, not only the width of the road has shrunk, it had also led to many dangerous potholes on the existing road. The condition of the road between Sengipatti and Vallam is too bad. I request the NHAI authorities to take steps with immediate effect for closing the potholes at once.

2G spectrum sale

Two weeks before the union, “NFTE” in the telecom sector charged the IT and Communication Minister A. Raja that on the sale of 2G spectrum there was a big scam and huge loss to the Government. The CPI(M) only two days before endorsed the same. But the CPI(M) supported union BSNLEU, all India secretary Namboothiri gave a clean chit to Mr. Raja and that the 2G spectrum sale was according to law. Chief Minister Karunanidhi declared the CPI(M) was wrong but the trade union controlled by CPI(M) was right. The CPI and its controlled organisation NFTE both charged the Minister about the spectrum sale. A thorough CBI enquiry is immediately required.
