Vijayawada: Municipal Commissioner P. S. Pradyumna surrendered Chief Engineer T. Anjaneyulu to his parent department Public Heath, here on Monday. Exact reasons, however, behind surrendering the chief engineer were not known. The senior officials are speculating various reasons that could have prompted the commissioner to surrender him. Some of the reasons include, the chief engineer took initiative and made arrangements for the inauguration of houses constructed under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) programme during Commissioner’s absence. In addition, Mr. Anjaneyulu is said to have raised objections over a decision taken by SEs with regard to proposed 10 MGD plant at Gunadala. Similarly, Mr. Anjaneyulu, some time ago, issued a circular stating that sand need not be used before relaying the roads that were dug for Under Ground Drainage (UGD). It triggered a controversy in the Corporation circles. Subsequently, the commissioner cancelled the circular issued by the chief engineer, and issued a fresh circular. The commissioner made it mandatory for the CE to consult the SEs before issuing circulars, officials say.
