School notes

Hockey title for Santa Maria

Santa Maria Matriculation School, Crawford, won the under-17 hockey title at the divisional-level tournament. It defeated Punitha Arokia Annai Higher Secondary School, Keeranur, 1-0 in the final. The winner has qualified for the State hockey tournament to be held in Karaikudi. School directors Nirmal Nathan and Rosalind Nathan, Principal Arogyaraj and staff members commended the team.

Fancy dress

A fancy dress competition was organised at the Tender Feet Pre-School, Thillai Nagar, as part of the children’s day celebrations. The theme of the competition was ‘community helpers’ and it saw participation of more than 20 children. Deepam and Sudarshini, parents of alumni were the judges for the competition.

Rahul Cruce, dressed up as a chef, bagged the first prize. Bavesh Ram, in the garb of a scientist, won the second prize. Pranav Ganesan as farmer and Arnav Choudhary as nurse shared the third spot. Gifts were distributed to the participants. Correspondent Kanchana and Administrator Durriya felicitated the children.

Aged Home visit

Sixty members of the Interact club of Campion Anglo Indian Higher Secondary School visited St. Antony’s Home for Aged at Kattur. The visit, according to the organisers, was aimed at instilling the spirit of social service in students and the need to extend a helping hand to the aged. Sweets and gifts were distributed to the inmates. Principal Bro. J. Jesuraj commended the students.

Rangoli show

Students of St. Antony’s Matriculation School, Renga Nagar, participated in large numbers at the rangoli show organised as part of the children’s day celebrations and drew colourful patterns. Chief guest for the function A. Bhuvaneswari spoke on the country’s rich cultural heritage. Correspondent Gerlyn Isaaks was present.

St. Joseph’s wins football title

St. Joseph’s College Higher Secondary School won the divisional-level senior football title beating St. Mary’s High School, Pudukottai, 3-1 in the final. The winner has booked a place in the State-level tournament to be held in Sivaganga next month. Correspondent and Headmaster Rev. Fr. Augustine S.J. felicitated the students.

Handball title

SBIOA Matriculation Higher Secondary School won the boys’ handball title at the district-level monthly sports competitions conducted by the Tiruchi-unit of the Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu (SDAT) at the Anna Stadium recently. Commissioner of Police, Tiruchi city, A. Alexander Mohan gave away the prizes in the presence of Regional Senior Manager, Tiruchi-unit of SDAT, N. Sundaram and District Sports Officer C. Punniyamoorthy. School principal K.K.S. Pushpa and the Secretary of Tiruchi District Handball Association, R. Karunakaran commended the winners.

Children’s Day

Children’s Day and annual sports day were celebrated in a grand manner at Sowdambika Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Thuraiyur. Canara Bank manager Aarumugham inaugurated the torch run. He also gave away the prizes to the winners of various competitions.

Variety programmes by the students enthralled the audience. Chairman Ramamurthi, Director Premalatha, Principal (Administration) Ramaswami and Principal (Academic) A.G. Prakash spoke.

Seminar held

Consumer Council of Government Boys Higher Secondary School, Musiri organised a seminar on ‘consumer welfare’ for the benefit of NSS volunteers of the school recently. Headmaster in-charge A. Janagaraj presided. State president of Consumer Protection Council, V. Muthukumar was the chief guest and spoke elaborately on the topic. Secretary of Ulaga Tamil Sangam M. N. Nithyanandam, Project Officer Tamil Selvan, Coordinator of the Consumer Council of the School K. Rajendran and others spoke.
