CHENNAI: Chennai is the most populous district of Tamil Nadu with 43,43,645 people and Perambalur district has the lowest population, with 4,93,646 people.

These details are a part of the 2001 census of Tamil Nadu which was published as a CD by Registrar General and Commissioner, Census, Delhi, on Monday.

The total population of Tamil Nadu according to the census is 6,24,05,679, with 3,14,00,909 men and 3,10,04,770 women.

All details are available at the website http://census.tn.nic.in/.

The details can also be obtained from the office of District Collectors and Corporation Commisioner, according to a press release.
