Chennai: Fenil Shah of Gujarat and Anjana Krishnan of Kerala emerged the sole leaders in the boys and girls sections respectively, with full points, at the end of the sixth round in the VIT National under-13 chess championships in Vellore on Monday. Fenil could not have had a better Monday as he won both his games to move from being a joint leader to sole leader. Fenil spotted a tactic to sacrifice a rook and win two bishops and he went for it to defeat Chandrasish Majumdar of Bengal in 42 moves with white pieces. Shiven Khosla of Mumbai and D. Yashas of Karnataka are in second place. Anjana outplayed J. Vaishnavi with the black pieces and picked up a free knight to win the game in 59 moves. Upset winIn the morning session, Anjana had shocked Bodda Pratyusha with a fine knight sacrifice on move 29 which won her two pawns and was the defining moment of the game. Anjana is followed by top seed Saranya of Chennai on 5.5.
