WARANGAL: Pulluri Shashank, the 22-year-old Andhra student shot at outside his apartment in Tennesse, is stated to be “out of danger” after undergoing two surgeries even as State officials assured help to the family to facilitate their travel to the U.S. Shashank, an MBA student at University of Middle Tennessee in southern U.S., received bullet injuries in his stomach and chest after he was fired at by an African American, but is now out of danger, his father Pulluri Sudhakar told PTI. He said two surgeries were performed on his son and he was being kept under observation. Mr. Sudhakar, who does not have a passport, said he had approached authorities for help after which they assured him that he will get the travel documents by Tuesday morning. A top State official has offered to write to the External Affairs Ministry to press for speedy issuance of visa for the family so that it can meet Shasank at the earliest, said Mr. Sudhakar, an officer in the State Cooperatives Department. Shashank’s mother Arundhati is a teacher and his younger sister is a student of BCA. Shashank is the sixth Indian student of Andhra Pradesh origin to be attacked in the U.S. in the last one year. In the previous attacks, all the five victims died. The incident occurred when Shashank and his friends were entering their flat after returning from an outing. Shashank did his BE course from a private engineering college at Huzurabad in Warangal district and went to the U.S. 18 months ago, said Mr. Sudhakar. – PTI
