The newly inaugurated HRSG module welding station at BHEL, Tiruchi. TIRUCHI: Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL), Tiruchi, on Monday commissioned the country’s largest Frame 9FA HRSG (Heat Recovery Steam Generator) module welding station. BHEL Executive Director V. Ananthakrishnan inaugurated the facility, in the presence of T.S.G. Narayanan, Deputy Director of Boilers. The welding station is designed for handling Frame 9FA HRSG modules up to 22.4 metre height, 3.715 metre width and for weight up to 7.009 tonnes, with a unique formulation of special welding procedures and heat treatment techniques. To accommodate the welding station, BHEL has made a welding pit of 3-metre deep and a roof elevation of 3 metre. The heat recovery from the Gas Turbine Exhaust is by means of modules (Harp), with spiral-finned tubes forming various sections such as economiser, evaporator, super-heater and re-heater. To optimise the steam generation, tall modules are arranged in triple-width in the gas path. These modules are of single-row design and of height approximately 23 metres. BHEL will make 618 modules during 2008-09 for use in various HRSG projects under execution. BHEL executes 10 orders, amounting to a power generation capacity of 3500 MW, using combined cycle and cogeneration power plants, on a turnkey basis. The recent orders won by BHEL for such type of steam generators include the EPC (Erection, Procurement and Commissioning) contracts from Pragati Power Corporation Limited for 1371 MW CCPP at Bawana in Delhi; from GSPC Pipavav Power Company Limited for a 700 MW CCPP at Pipavav in the coastal Saurashtra region; from the Gujarat State Energy Generation Limited for a 350 MW CCPP at Hazira; and from Reliance.
