Counterfeit notes seized, 10 held

THENI: A police special wing arrested 10 persons on charges of circulating counterfeit notes in the denomination of Rs.500 here on Monday.
A total of 1080 counterfeit notes and machines including a computer, scanner, printer and dying machine worth Rs.10 lakh used for printing those notes were seized from them.
Initially the team arrested Rajasekaran Nair of Neyyatrinkarai, Kerala and Nazir Ahmad of Sivakasi at Alli Nagaram near here and seized 160 counterfeit notes from them.
Acting on information, the police said their team arrested eight persons – Mohammad Meeran, Syed Ahmad, Abdul Chukkur and Mohammad Ibrahim of Sivakasi, Thennarasu of Tiruchi, Palanithurai of Manachanallur, Srinivasan of Aravakurichi and Mahendran of Bodi.
The gang printed the currencies in Sivakasi and Tiruchi and planned to circulate in Theni, Tiruchi, Sivakasi and Kerala.
Similar cases were pending against Rajasekaran Nair at various police stations in Coimbatore and Tiruchi districts. The gang had been engaging in counterfeit currency trade for the past 10 years, the police added.
