25 JD(S) workers injured in accident

BANGALORE: At least 25 workers of the Janata Dal (Secular) sustained minor injuries when the buses they were travelling in were involved in an accident on Bangalore-Mysore Road on Monday morning.

About 150 activists from Mandya and Mysore districts were on their way to Palace Grounds to attend the Kayakalpa Pratigna Samavesha in three Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation buses.

Seven other KSRTC buses joined the three buses near Maddur.

All 10 vehicles were heading towards Bangalore.

“When they reached the Balaji Kalyana Mantapa on Mysore Road in Ramanagara, because of some confusion three of the 10 buses banged into each other from the rear. At least 25 people, all men, were injured. They were administered first aid at private clinics in Ramanagara. However, no case has been filed. But an accident case has been registered,” an officer of Ramanagaram police station told The Hindu.

The buses were badly damaged in the accident and vehicular movement came to a standstill for a while on Mysore Road.

Haphazard parking of vehicles on Mysore Road also caused a traffic jam. Hundreds of vehicles hired from the KSRTC and the BMTC in which people were mobilised for the programme were haphazardly parked on the left side of the road between Srirangapatna and Bidadi.

This further aggravated the problem.
