GUNTUR: Pattabhipuram Crime police have busted two gangs of chain-snatchers and recovered five gold chains valued at Rs.1.12 lakh. Officer on Special Duty M. Ravi Prakash told reporters here on Monday that the three accused, Madugula Kishore Babu, Sk. Shaber and Penamachu Suman were habitual offenders resorting to petty thefts before committing major offences. Their modus operandi was to select isolated places in the city outskirts in the Pattabhipuram Police Station Limits and snatch gold chains from gullible women walking on the roads. Of the arrested offenders Kishore Babu was arrested in 2006 in a case of murder for gain in Nagarampalem. On a tip-off, Pattabhipuram police arrested the three and recovered two gold chains valued at Rs.40,000. The police also arrested four members of a gang on charge of robbing gold chains. The police recovered three chains valued at Rs.72,000 from them. The arrested persons were, Kanthi Siva, Vadarevu Nagaraju, Vemula Durga and Kanthi Srirama Murthy, father of Siva and acting as a receiver for the stolen items. The gang members committed several offences in isolated areas under the Pattabhipuram police station limits. Three members of the gang were arrested on November 3 and later Kanthi Siva Ramamurhy was arrested and stolen property was recovered from him. Town D.S.P M. Rajendranath was present at the press conference.
