Kilby quiz: NPS is regional winner

Staff Reporter

Bangalore: Teams from Pune, Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai and Bangalore have been gearing up to battle it out at the sixth edition of the Texas Instruments Jack Kilby Science and Technology Quiz over the past month. Bright minds that made it to the national level came together at St. John’s Auditorium here in Koramangala on Sunday for the final fight.

The quiz was launched in 2003 in Bangalore with the hope of encouraging the spirit of scientific inquiry among the youth. The competition involved students of the 8th, 9th and 10th standards to harness a sense of scientific exploration and hone their skills of quick thinking and working under pressure.

The fight was a tough one with Padma Seshadri Bala Bhavan Senior Secondary School, Nungambakkam, Chennai, winning the national round. Harish Krishna V. and Varun Rajagopal, ninth standard students of the winning school, walked away with the first prize: Apple Mac Notebooks.

The Bangalore regional winner was National Public School, which represented the city in the nationals.

Prizes worth Rs. 1 lakh, including robotic kits, iPods, telescopes, microscopes, high-end calculators, certificates, book coupons and trophies, were given to the regional winners.
