Prashob rallies to take trophy in Category ‘A’

CHENNAI: Prashob Nair of Wellington came from behind to shoot a five-over par 75 on Sunday and won the Category ‘A’ (U-17) in the MGC south zone junior golf championship here.

Prashob, who had begun the day in fourth place, leapfrogged past first-day leader Yashas Chandra, who slid to third with a 13-over par 83.

Aided by relenting winds, the second and final day witnessed marginally better scores by all players. In Category ‘B’ (U-14), Bangalore’s Syed Saqib Ahmed pipped Yashas Chandra by two strokes. Syed shaved nine strokes off his opening day’s card to finish at 80 (a total of 169).

The results: Category ‘A’: 1. Prashob Nair (89, 75, 164), 2. Syed Saqib Ahmed (89, 80, 169), 3. Yashas Chandra (88, 83, 171); Category ‘B’: 1. Syed Saqib Ahmed, 2. Yashas Chandra, 3. Siddhant Pai (99, 87, 186); Category ‘C’: 1. Shivnaren Srinivasan (83, 81, 164), 2. Karan Arjun (85, 90, 175), 3. E.V. Gaurav Reddy (95, 84, 179); Category ‘D’: 1. Surya Kumar (85, 82, 167), 2. Harshath B. (91, 91, 182), 3. Ganapathy B.C. (102, 88, 190).

Umpires’ clinic

Chennai Hockey Association (CHA) will conduct an umpires’ clinic on November 22 at the Mayor Radhakrishnan Stadium, Egmore. The session will commence at 11 a.m. and is being conducted for the benefit of umpires officiating in the ongoing first division league competition.

Kumaravelu sizzles

Kumaravelu thumped in five goals (including a hat-trick) as Friends HC routed Coronation Youngsters 9-2 in the CHA First division league championship here on Sunday.
