SBI beats Central Excise

HYDERABAD: State Bank of India defeated Central Excise 59-42 in the Hyderabad District Basketball Association’s annual league championship on Sunday.

The scores: SBI 59 (Ravikanth 14, Ramachandran 10, Prem Krupakar 12, Subbiah 14) bt Central Excise 42 (Srikanth 12, Pratap 12, Susheel 14).

AOC Centre 40 (Somya 10, Irfan 10) bt Hyderabad Mayors 12.

Artillery Centre 50 (Gopal 14, praddeep 10) bt APSRTC 27 (Ventateshwar Rao 10, Srinivas Reddy 10).

Nizam College triumphs

Nizam college won the Osmania university inter-college football tournament by beating Bhavan’s College 2-0. Mahmood and J. Lal were the scorers. The third place went to M.J. Engineering College which defeated Anwar Ul Uloom College 4-2 via the tie beaker.

Vijaykumar, Shazia win

G. Vijaykumar of SAI Sports Training Centre, Saroornagar, representing Osmania University, won the gold in pommel horse, bronze in roman rings and in parallel bars, in the all-India inter- university gymnastics championships held in Kurukshetra (Haryana) recently.

In the women’s section Shazia Binthe Musa won bronze in floor exercises and in table vault.

Awards for Nishanth, Navatha

Nishanth Reddy and Navatha bagged the Best Sportsperson award in men’s and women’s categories respectively in the IIIT-H sports meet which ended on Sunday. The two of them excelled in athletics events.

Genpact (II) wins

Genpact (II) won the DLF Corporate Challenge badminton championship defeating Genpact (I) 2-1 in the team event final at Pullela Gopi Chand Academy. International player Saina Nehawal gave away the prizes.

The results: Team event: Genpact (II) bt Genpact (I) 2-1 (Samit lost to Seshu 8-21, 18-21; Uday / Elvis bt Sandeep / Praveen 21-14, 21-16; Cynthia / Gayathri bt Taj / Radhika 21-7, 21-3).

Open event: Men’s doubles: Seshu / Uday bt B. Sandeep / Naveen 21-17, 21-19.

Women’s doubles: Cynthia / Radhika bt Nivedita / Hemalatha 21-7, 21-8.

Senior men doubles: Mohan / Satya bt Seshadri / Murthy 21-19 12-21, 21-17.

Basketball tournament

The 34th AP senior inter-district basketball championship for men and women will be held at Anantapur from November 20 to 23, according to T.V.S.N. Prasad, secretary, Andhra region, APBA.
