Rajeev and Adheena corner glory

STATE CHAMPS: Adheena K. Latheef and M.R. Rajeev who won the women’s and men’s titles.

ALAPPUZHA: As a coach, M.R. Rajeev was aware of his trainee’s weak links. He used the knowledge wisely as he outsmarted S. Sundar 4-1 and regained the men’s title at the 57th Kerala State senior table tennis championship at the Alappuzha YMCA on Sunday evening.

Both the players went on an attacking spree, and as the match progressed, winning points on each other’s mistakes. But the 16-year-old Adheena, who had won the youth girls’ title earlier, kept her cool till the end to clinch the crown.

Men’s final: M. R. Rajeev (Alp) bt S. Sundar (Alp) 11-9, 11-8, 11-6, 10-12, 11-8. Semifinals: S. Sundar bt P. Adarsh (Tvm) 6-11, 11-9, 11-4, 7-11, 12-14, 11-6, 11-4; M. R. Rajeev (Alp) bt Vishnu Narayan (Alp) 11-6, 10-12,
