Thiruvananthapuram keeps title

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Thiruvananthapuram educational district retained the overall title in the 38th State schools aquatic meet which concluded at the Water Works Swimming pool here on Sunday.

Thiruvananthapuram garnered 462 points and was followed by Attingal (237) and Aluva (130).

The final day’s competition saw three records being re-written which included an 11-year-old mark in junior boys’ 100m backstroke. For a change general school wards held sway over their sports division counterparts.

V. Turbu (Aluva) had the distinction of breaking the oldest record as he clocked 1:06.57s to erase A.K. Sivadasan old mark (1:10.05). It was Turbu’s third record of the meet.

H.S. Priyanka broke the six-year-old record in senior girls’ 100m butterfly. Priyanka beat the rest of the field by about a pool length as she clocked 1:15.03 seconds to sink B. Praveena’s 1:15.85s set in 2002.

The third record of the day was set by V.R. Vimal Raj (CSH, Nanniyode) in sub-junior boys’ 50m freestyle. Vimal Raj clocked 0:28.10s to break Rahul’s mark (28.70s) set in 2007.
