BJP promises 24-hour power supply

Senior BJP Leader M. Venkaiah Naidu with Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan, general secretary and in charge of the State Ananth Kumar and State BJP chief Narendra Singh Tomar releasing the party’s election manifesto in Bhopal on Sunday.

Bhopal: The Bharatiya Janata Party, which has ruled Madhya Pradesh for the past five years, has promised food grain at subsidised rates and farm loans at low interest rates if it is re-elected.

The promise was held out in the ruling party’s election manifesto which was released here on Sunday evening by BJP’s former president M. Venkaiah Naidu. The State goes to polls November 27.

The party promises to provide wheat at Rs. two per kg to all “Below Poverty Line” (BPL) ration card holders, salt at 25 paise per kg to the Scheduled Tribes families, farm loans at three per cent interest, and 24 hours uninterrupted power across the State.

The manifesto also contained assurances of ‘pucca’ roads to villages, a master plan for rural areas, high schools at every five km, and higher secondary schools at every eight km. Besides, employment oriented training and jobs to 100,000 youth every year also have been promised.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan, accompanied by Mr. Venkaiah Naidu, told reporters that his aim was to bring Madhya Pradesh at par with the developed States of the country.

The manifesto has said it would provide separate power feeders for domestic and agriculture purposes. Mr. Chauhan said the State would start supplying uninterrupted power supply for 24 hours the moment separate feeders were installed across the State. The Chief Minister said well equipped industrial centres would be developed in various parts of the State and care would be taken for the survival of cottage industries.

He promised agricultural equipment at subsidised rates and other efforts to make agriculture a profitable venture. .IANS
