Man tricked, robbed of jewellery

Staff Reporter

CHENNAI: Two men, posing as officers from Anti Terrorism Squad (ATS), tricked and robbed a jewellery broker of 62 sovereigns of jewellery in Pondy Bazaar on Saturday.

According to police, Dharmendra Jain (40) of Nellore in Andhra Pradesh traded in stone-studded gold necklaces to various parts of the country.

On Saturday, he was in the city on a business trip. He was intercepted by two Hindi-speaking men in Pondy Bazaar.

They claimed themselves to be ATS officers, inspected his bag and then allowed him to go. “After going a short distance, the victim realised that his bag was lighter and checked it. He found the jewellery missing,” an investigating officer said.

Dharmendra lodged a complaint with the Pondy Bazaar police.
