Comprehensive policy on safe water

Staff Correspondent

Bellary: Rural Development and Panchayat Raj department will come up with a comprehensive policy on providing safe drinking water in rural areas, Minister for Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Shobha Karandlaje told presspersons on Sunday.

She said that several drinking water supply schemes, meant for rural areas, were yet to be completed because of unscientific planning such as non-acquisition of land before the tender process was completed, delay in execution resulting in escalation of cost. She added that all care would be taken to ensure that the mistakes committed earlier would not be repeated while preparing the comprehensive plan and also while executing schemes.

Ms. Karandlaje said that networking of all major roads in the rural areas and linking them to main roads under the private-public participation (PPP) was also on the anvil besides giving importance to maintenance of the roads. A decision in this regard would be taken soon, she said.

About regularising the daily wage employees, Ms. Karandlaje, who is also member of the sub-committee looking into the matter, said that as per the Supreme Court directions all necessary records of the daily wage employees were being collected and very soon a report would be submitted to the Government.
