Vegetable fair begins in city

Fresh and green: The vegetable fair that opened at the Jawaharlal Nehru International Stadium in the city on Sunday. —

KOCHI: A vegetable fair organised by Kerala Vegetable and Fruit Promotion Council Keralam (VFPCK) got underway here on Sunday at the Jawaharlal Nehru International Stadium, Kaloor.

Minister for Agriculture Mullakkara Ratnakaran who inaugurated the fair said that the VFPCK fair was part of the Government effort to make vegetables available at reasonable prices.

Deputy Mayor of the Corporation of Cochin C. K. Manishankar presided at the meeting. Chief Executive Office of VFPCK V. V. Pushpangadan welcomed the gathering.

A statement from VFPCK said that vegetables would be sold at the Fair at prices 30 per cent less than in the common market. Vegetables produced by farmers under the VFPCK would be sold through the fair which will be on for a month.
