Huge quantities of explosives seized

Sibsagar: Huge quantities of explosives, including two kg of RDX, were recovered on Sunday in Assam’s Sibsagar district for the fourth time within a week, the police said.

In a joint operation by the police and troops of 37 Assam Rifles, 26 detonators and 50 packets of cordex wire besides the RDX were recovered from a person named Moinuddin Talukdar of Simaluguri area of the district.

Security had been further tightened since the recovery, the police said.

A person, identified as Nihaz Talukdar, carrying 150 gelatine sticks and 250 detonators was apprehended from a bus on November 12 under the Geleki police station in the district and the next day a 10-kg improvised explosive device was recovered at Sonari area. The police and army had also recovered explosives in the district on Novem. 10. --PTI
