BANGALORE: The State Government on Friday informed the Karnataka High Court that the Revenue Department was planning to scan all revenue records in the offices of tahsildars, assistant commissioners and deputy commissioners. Advocate-General Uday Holla and Principal Secretary (Revenue) Thangaraj gave this undertaking before Justice K.L. Manjunath who was hearing a case relating to non-availability of records in the office of the tahsildar of Kotegere in Tumkur district. The Revenue Secretary had been asked to appear in court when the Kotegere tahsildar said he could not procure certain records as they were not available in his office. Both Mr. Holla and Mr. Thangaraj said that the Government would take steps to prepare an inventory of records in the offices of tahsildars, assistant commissioners and deputy commissioners. They said that steps would also be taken to trace missing records. Action would be taken against the officials responsible for missing records. The Government said that it was planning to scan all records so that even if the original records were lost, it could reconstruct the records by making use of the scanned documents. The Government said that it needed six months to complete the work and submit a report to the High Court.
