KOCHI: S.R. Kulkarni, president of All India Port and Dock Workers’ Federation and chairman of Asia-Pacific Dockers’ Section of the International Transport Workers’ Federation, has suggested that the Union government move a resolution in the UN that its maritime member countries deploy their naval ships in areas where Somali pirates are detaining vessels. In a letter sent to the government to congratulate Defence Minister A.K. Antony and naval personnel for rescuing a vessel recently from possible attack by the pirates, Mr. Kulkarni referred to the resolution passed in the UN by which its member countries deployed their armed forces in Ghana as a peace-keeping measure.
