Tiruchi
The student team worked on the schedule, fixing the agenda for the day.
Impressive: Winners of a fancy dress contest at BHEL Community Centre in Tiruchi. TIRUCHI: Every section of the society accepts that the present day younger generation, particularly school students, are talented. But not many come forward to give a chance to youngsters to prove their talent. The Community Centre of the Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) made a difference on Friday last, when it celebrated the Children’s Day, by involving school students alone. It was an all-children evening at the Community Centre, when the little pupils, sporting glittering attires, played every role – right from event-management to delivering a welcome address, proposing a vote of thanks. Over 200 children participated in the drawing and fancy dress competitions held to mark the celebrations that marked the birth anniversary of the first Prime Minister of free India, Jawaharlal Nehru. Another highlight of the celebrations was the participation of a dozen children of ‘Arivalayam’, a Special School for the Mentally Retarded, run on BHEL campus. The authorities floated a team comprising only students drawn from various schools situated on the BHEL campus to conduct the celebrations in a fitting manner. The student team worked on the schedule, fixing the agenda for the day. The Executive Director, BHEL, V. Ananthakrishnan presided over the function and distributed prizes to the winners. Conveying his Children’s Day greetings, Mr. Ananthakrishnan urged the children not to be complacent with academic achievement alone, but to hone their skills by participating in extra-curricular activities too. The celebrations would be an eye-opener towards this goal, he hoped. The General Manager, Spares Business, BHEL and president, Community Centre, N. Jagadeesan, and the president, Ladies Wing, Gowri Jagadeesan, offered felicitations. Swetha and Anuj, both students, welcomed and proposed a vote of thanks respectively.
