Quarterfinalists spotted

Angamali: The quarterfinalists were spotted in both boys and girls’ sections in the all-Kerala inter-school Viswajyothi basketball tournament at the Viswajyoghi CMI public school courts here on Saturday.

In the boys’ section, St. Ephremes (Mannanan), G.V. Raja Sports School (Thiruvananthapuram), St. Thomas HSS (Kozhencherry), Rajagiri HSS (Kalamasserry), St. Josephs HSS (Thiruvananthapuram),SC Seminary HSS (Thiruvalla), Don Bosco HSS (Irinjalakuda) and St Joseph HSS (Pulicunnu) moved in to the quarterfinal stage.

In the girls’ section, SN Trust (Kollam) ,Govt Municipal HSS (Thallasserry), Kristhu Jyothi HSS (Changanassery) Mt Carmel HSS (Kottayam), Little Flower HSS (Koratty),GV HSS (Kannur) and G.V. Raja HSS (Thiruvananthapuram) made it into the quarterfinals.

The results: Boys: Group A: St. Ephremes, Mannanam 45 (Jose Ani 16) bt SH HSS, Thevara 21; G.V. Raja, Thiruvananthapuram 38 (Nicewin 17) bt SH HSS, Thevara 20 (Tony 14).

Group B: St. Thomas HSS, Kozhencherry 47(Ligin 17) bt Viswajyothi Public School, Angamali 28 (Mathew Joy 10); Rajagiri HSS, Kalamasserry bt Viswajyothi PublicSchool, Angamali 28-22.

Group C: St. Joseph HSS, Thiruvanathapuram 47 (A.R. Ajith 10, Manulal 10) bt Kristhu Jyothi HSS, Chettipuzha 29 (Cean Jose 10); SC Seminary HSS, THiruvalla 50 (Anil Joseph 17) bt Kristhu Jyothi HSS, Chettipuzha 33(Cean Jose 12).

Group D: St. Joseph HSS, Pulicunnu 38 (Jaimon Francis 10, K.A. Tijomon 0, Joy N. Joseph 10) bt MTHSS, Kurianoor 24 (Arun K. Thomas 10); Don Bosco HSS, Irinjalakuda 38 (Amith Sebastian 11) bt MTHSS, Kurianoor 14.

Girls: Group A: SN Trust, Kollam 61 (Stephy Nixon 19, R.K. Smruthy 14) bt Govt. Municipal HSS School, Knr 49 (P.S. Neenumol 26).

Group B: Kristhu Jyothi HSS, Chettipuzha 26 (Rosy P. Joseph 23) bt MTHSS, Kottayam 23.

Group C: Mount Carmel HSS, Kottayam 30 (Anusha Anto10) bt St. Joseph Anglo Indian School 8; Little Flower HSS, Koratty 24 (Theresa Susan 10) bt St. Joseph Anglo Indian School 16.

Group D: GV HSS, Kannur 30 (Anusha Anto10) bt Vimala Hridaya Kollam 14; GV Raja HSS, Thiruvananthapuram 35 (S. Arya 14) bt Vimala Hridaya Kollam 21 (Premilal 15); GV HSS Kannur 53 (Tilna 16, Anusha Anto12) bt GV Raja HSS, Thiruvananthapuram 24 (S. Arya 12).

Sacred Heart wins

Sacred Heart HSS boys from Thevara and Bhavan’s Vidya Mandir girls’ (Elamakkara) won the 18th P.L. Lawrence memorial inter-school basketball tournament at the Fort Kochi YMCA.

Sacred Heart defeated Bhavan’s Vidya Mandir, Elamakkara, 56-50 while the Bhavan’s girls crushed Chinmaya Vidyalaya (Vaduthala) 42-17.

S. Anand of Elamakkara Bhavan’s and Vrinda Vijayan of Vaduthala Chinmaya were selected as the tournament’s most promising players.

Premkumar, Circle Inspector of Police, gave away the prizes. The YMCA also felicitated P.J. Sebastian, senior basketball coach and a product of the Fort Kochi YMCA, during the closing function.
