Angamali: The quarterfinalists were spotted in both boys and girls’ sections in the all-Kerala inter-school Viswajyothi basketball tournament at the Viswajyoghi CMI public school courts here on Saturday. In the boys’ section, St. Ephremes (Mannanan), G.V. Raja Sports School (Thiruvananthapuram), St. Thomas HSS (Kozhencherry), Rajagiri HSS (Kalamasserry), St. Josephs HSS (Thiruvananthapuram),SC Seminary HSS (Thiruvalla), Don Bosco HSS (Irinjalakuda) and St Joseph HSS (Pulicunnu) moved in to the quarterfinal stage. In the girls’ section, SN Trust (Kollam) ,Govt Municipal HSS (Thallasserry), Kristhu Jyothi HSS (Changanassery) Mt Carmel HSS (Kottayam), Little Flower HSS (Koratty),GV HSS (Kannur) and G.V. Raja HSS (Thiruvananthapuram) made it into the quarterfinals. The results: Boys: Group A: St. Ephremes, Mannanam 45 (Jose Ani 16) bt SH HSS, Thevara 21; G.V. Raja, Thiruvananthapuram 38 (Nicewin 17) bt SH HSS, Thevara 20 (Tony 14). Sacred Heart winsSacred Heart HSS boys from Thevara and Bhavan’s Vidya Mandir girls’ (Elamakkara) won the 18th P.L. Lawrence memorial inter-school basketball tournament at the Fort Kochi YMCA. Sacred Heart defeated Bhavan’s Vidya Mandir, Elamakkara, 56-50 while the Bhavan’s girls crushed Chinmaya Vidyalaya (Vaduthala) 42-17. S. Anand of Elamakkara Bhavan’s and Vrinda Vijayan of Vaduthala Chinmaya were selected as the tournament’s most promising players. Premkumar, Circle Inspector of Police, gave away the prizes. The YMCA also felicitated P.J. Sebastian, senior basketball coach and a product of the Fort Kochi YMCA, during the closing function.
