Another bomb hoax in Lucknow court

Atiq Khan

LUCKNOW: Another bomb hoax in the Lucknow Civil Court premises on Saturday – the second in as many days – created a flutter as the police and PAC cordoned off the area where the explosion, caused by a fire cracker, occurred. Like Friday, Saturday’s explosion too occurred in a toilet.

The State Director-General of Police, Vikram Singh, told journalists that it was the handiwork of some mischievous elements and ruled out a terror attack. Mr. Singh said the incident was masterminded to create panic on the court premises. The DGP said that strict action would be taken against those who tried to disturb peace.

The explosion occurred at around 12 noon inside the toilet on the second floor of the multi-storeyed Chief Judicial Magistrate court on the premises.

Police personnel later found remnants of the crude bomb on the switchboard in the toilet. The blast occurred when no one was in the toilet. Friday’s explosion was caused inside the toilet at around 11.25 a.m. in the close vicinity of the office of Additional District Judge II. No injuries were reported.

Following Saturday’s explosion, a bomb detection squad checked the spots vulnerable on the premises, including the parking lot. Senior police officials, including the Lucknow SSP, Akhil Kumar, reached the site.

The Lucknow Civil Court had witnessed bomb blasts on November 23 last year. Nobody was injured in the incident in which explosive devices were kept on bicycles. Security has been tightened on the premises.
