NMIMS launches Bangalore operations

Staff Reporter

Bangalore: “Educational institutions that have been set up with a motive to make money should not be allowed to function. The State Government will promote institutions that are service minded and aim to improve quality of education,” Minister for Higher Education Aravind Limbavali has said.

He was speaking after inaugurating the Bangalore operations of Shri Vile Parle Kelvani Mandal’s NMIMS University here on Friday.

While welcoming NMIMS to start its operations and provide quality education to students of Karnataka, the Minister urged the institution to expand its operations to other parts of the State in the larger interests of local students. “Karnataka needs premier institutions such as NMIMS to help improve the quality of education and increase the enrolment rate from 11 to 15 per cent. The Government will help upcoming educational institutions by providing land on the outskirts of the city at subsidised rates,” he said.

He said that educational institutions should reserve some seats for poor and meritorious students.

Mr. Limbavali said that the State Government was committed to setting up a premier educational institution named after Sir M. Visvesvaraya at his birthplace Muddenahalli near Devanahalli.

He said that the culture of educational institutions was changing. “Campuses should have a provision to cater to students from the kindergarten to the postgraduate-level. If NMIMS University is ready to set up such a facility, the Government will extend support to it,” added.

N.M. Kondap, Vice-Chancellor of NMIMS University, said the university was happy to start operations in Karnataka, after Maharashtra.

“NMIMS will contribute towards the management development of aspiring professionals and the corporate community of the city. With our world class infrastructure, programme design, pedagogy, faculty selection, feedback and evaluation mechanism, we will ensure that there is no compromise on quality,” he said.

B.P. Sheth, vice-president of SVKM and mentor of NMIMS, spoke.
