40 ill after eating food at funeral

Rangiya (Assam): At least 40 persons have been hospitalised after they ate food at a funeral ceremony in lower Assam’s Kamrup (Rural) district on Thursday.

Official sources said on Saturday that the people, after eating the food, made of soaked gram and moong, at Athara village, complained of indigestion, stomachache and vomiting.

Their condition deteriorated on Friday night, with 40 of them admitted to the Kamalpur health centre.

Four others were taken to a health centre in the village on Saturday.

One person, who was in a critical condition was rushed to the Gauhati Medical College Hospital, sources said. — PTI
