Chandigarh: The Minimum Wages Board of Punjab Government has proposed a 23 per cent hike in respect of 60 scheduled employments. The Board has proposed revision of minimum wage of unskilled workers to Rs. 123.12 against Rs. 100.51 being paid earlier, an official release said here on Saturday. Labour Minister Tikshan Sood said the minimum wages in the state were being revised after a gap of 8 years as the erstwhile Congress government during its five-year tenure “refused” to revise minimum wages to protect the interests of rich industrial lobby. He said the SAD-BJP Government took the first step to constitute Minimum Wages Board to revise minimum wages of poor labour class. The Board held deliberations with employers and employees and has now proposed minimum 23 per cent hike in minimum wages, he added. He said a notification has been issued to seek objections from the public, as required by the law and minimum wages would be notified after processing the objections received, if any, after two months.
