HYDERABAD: The Bharatiya Janata Party State president Bandaru Dattatreya demanded that the United Progressive Alliance government introduce a bill to create separate Telangana in the winter session of Parliament. Addressing a press conference here on Saturday, Mr. Dattatreya said that if the State government tried to pass a resolution in the Andhra Pradesh Assembly, it would not serve any purpose as it would be nothing but an attempt to divert people’s attention. “If the Congress party is serious about creating a separate State, it should introduce a bill in the Parliament,” he added. He said senior BJP leader L.K. Advani’s statement on Telangana gave the party new energy. “It is a new turning point in the State politics and has energised the party. We will take his message to the grass roots level,” he added. He said the Congress particularly its State unit chief D. Srinivas’s remarks only showed that the party was against creating Telangana. He dared Mr. Srinivas to quit his post and openly espouse the cause of separate state. Buoyed by the success of the ‘Vijay Sankalp Yatra’ public meeting in Hyderabad earlier this week, the party is planning to hold similar rallies in Coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema next month. Mr. Dattatreya said a meeting of the office bearers held here on Saturday demanded the government to drop the move to acquire land for the Special Economic Zone in Chilamthuru in Ananthapur district. He also demanded that the Home Minister K. Jana Reddy tender his resignation in wake of the observation of the State Human Rights Commission to pay Rs. 5 lakh ex-gratia to the family of Moddu Seenu, who was murdered inside Anantapur jail.
