TDP seeks probe into land deals

Kadapa Mayor to sue Telugu daily

HYDERABAD: The Telugu Desam Party on Saturday demanded a judicial enquiry into all land deals in which Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy’s ‘friends and relatives’ were involved.

A contingent led by TDP MP E. Dayakar Rao on Saturday visited a site at Madhapur where Kadapa Mayor P. Ravindranath Reddy and brother-in-law of the Chief Minister is getting a complex constructed in alleged violation of the Urban Land Ceiling Act.

The issue came into focus on Saturday following a report in a Telugu daily. Others present included MLC P. Yadagiri and MLA P. Keshav. They regretted that such instances of government and private land being grabbed had become all-too-frequent.

Meanwhile, Mr. Ravindranath Reddy said that he would sue the daily that carried the report. Denying the report and terming it ‘motivated’, he said if the daily failed to tender an unconditional apology for tarnishing his image by carrying a misleading report without verifying facts, he would file a defamation suit for Rs. 50 crore.

At a press conference here, he said all transactions pertaining to the land in Madhapur were as per law. “There is no truth in the report that I had misused power to get the land alienated in my favour. All payments were made and the registration was done only after that,” he clarified.

In a related development, Regional head of Saralpuria Property Development Private Limited, S. Chandrasekhar, told reporters that the photograph carried with the news item was a complex under construction and developed by the firm. “The photograph has created an impression as if our property is under litigation. We want the daily to apologise or face defamation,” he added.
