‘Protect Fundamental Rights’

Special Correspondent

Kochi: The former Attorney-General Soli J. Sorabjee said here on Saturday that the Fundamental Rights were the conscience of the Constitution and the judiciary was its conscience-keeper.

Delivering the fourth law lecture organised by the V.R. Krishna Iyer National Foundation for Law and Social Justice, he said experience had shown that there were “an infinite variety of judges” ranging from the bold and sensitive to the meek and submissive. Protection of human rights would primarily depend on their personality, the independence and judicial philosophy. He said Fundamental Rights should be given a generous and purposive construction.
