Telugu Mahila to submit liquor barons’ list to State

Staff Reporter

ADILABAD: State general secretary of Telugu Mahila and convener of the campaign against belt shops T. Aruna on Saturday opines that agitations are more important than controversy.

She was explaining her point of view on the question of revealing names of politicians who currently have interests in liquor business in Andhra Pradesh.

Ms. Aruna, along with Thota Lalitha, State secretary, G. Sujatha and Kanthamani, Adilabad district president and secretary respectively addressed a press conference as she was in Adilabad as part of her campaign tour. Revealing names of politicians involved in liquor business would rake up an unwanted controversy that can harm the campaign, she added.

Questions regarding the involvement of political leaders in liquor business cropped up when the belt shop campaign leader said liquor was being supplied to belt shops from the licensed vends. She said the organisation had the list of politicians who had interests in liquor business and the list would be given to the government for initiating suitable action.

Ms. Aruna criticised the Congress government at the Centre for failing to table the Women’s Reservation Bill in Parliament. She questioned Congress president and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi why her party was dithering on the issue of reservations to women. A delegation of campaign leaders later submitted a memorandum to authorities in collectorate to close all belt shops in Adilabad.
